Lots of news - and it's "about time too!"

When the original "Doctor Who Project" started it was all hypothetical. There were episodes missing to be sure, and artists who were fans of Doctor Who... but Gareth's ideas (and in particular the results of the polls on "reconstruction tehniques" were spookily foreshadowing his meeting up with the Who3D group. Because, you see, the idea of recreating Doctor Who episodes on computer wasn't just a theory, a myth, an idea - it was already happening...

The Doctor Who Project and Who3D have teamed up, resulting in "Reconstruction:The Doctor Who Project II". What that means to this website is that you'll not only be inflicted with some of Cliff Bowman's prose, but over time (as and when opportunities present themselves) you'll see updates on an actual attempt to reconstruct the missing 4th episode of "The Tenth Planet". You'll also get the opportunity to see some shots of 3D models not designed for "The Tenth Planet", but which could be used in reconstructing other lost episodes. Whilst we'd all rather the originals were recovered, this currently looks to be "The Way Forward" if we ever want to watch these stories in their entirety.

More news as and when Cliff or Gareth manage to put together updated material - it's hoped that there'll be a large update just after Christmas or, perhaps, the new year. This should include a gallery of "finished images" of some of the models and sets which the Who3D team have created. In the meantime Cliff will be working on continuing with the Storyboard for the episode. Once the first pass, with telesnaps, is done there's still plenty of work left, but short (far from finished) animations demonstrating either the models or animating will hopefully appear in the (relatively) near future. Please bear in mind that we can either work hard towards creating the reconstruction or work hard towards demonstrating the current progress - so the web site will *always* be behind where the team actually are.

If you haven't seen the THIRD article by SFX on this project, I suggest you pop along to http://www.sfx.co.uk/News/review.asp?ID=698 while the article is still up.

Various bits from me today!

First of all, apologies for the lack of concrete development at the moment, as several things have hit the fan at once...
First, I am in the process of moving myself up to Nottingham in the next 6 weeks, so as you can imagine I'm pretty busy sorting those matters out!

On top of this, The Ultimate Eighth Doctor Website has been momentarily shutdown due to a change in one of my ISPs, which caused all the support graphics to crash resulting lots of those horrible "X"'s everywhere. So I'm currently overhauling that site for August 1st so I can concentrate of this site again after that date.

However, I would still urge you to keep voting in the poll (link below) as it will stay open until August 31st, so you still vote as to... The Way Forward! Every vote DOES count, I promise you.

And finally more good news; I've been informed that after SFX, another major UK Sci-Fi and Fantasy magazine ran coverage about this site... More news when I get it!

After the successful launch of The Project, your feedback and the many e-mails I have received, I can now announce that Phase Two has begun!

After many people contacted me about the fesiability of my theory, which was a resounding "No", some people began to think actively about other ideas.

Thus, this month you can enjoy Phase Two, which YOU can vote and discuss upon the ideas here, giving your opinion about the proposals here!

THE DOCTOR WHO PROJECT LAUNCHES WITH STYLE!!!

Come the launch of the Doctor Who Project, the site has obtained nearly a thousand hits in less than a week! The success of the Site has taken even me by surpise, so I thank every visitor for their comments and thoughts!

Also, we were given generous time and coverage from the World's biggest selling Sci-Fi Magazine, SFX, on their On-line News Page, not once but TWICE, and if you want to see those articles click here and here. So my thanks to MJ Simspon and the team at SFX for their support, and making the World aware that we existed! I'll even let them off the broken link in the first article!

But what really counts is the response I've had from you fans out there, both thanking me for the Site, considering the ideas and where we go from here. This was just PHASE ONE: My ideas were just the start, and now, the Project has finally begun to come to life.

PHASE TWO begins soon, looking at fans respose on how the ideas here can move forward... I've ideas on how to realise the rendering idea, the pro and (a lot of!) cons from people like Steve Roberts at the Restoration Team about my bullet-time theory and so on.Also, I've had a great deal of support from people who have taken the time to point out addition things that were required from the history section; my thanks for your efforts in taking care with the Site!

So, the next stage of the Project will begin in the next two weeks - where will we go from here? PREPARE FOR PHASE TWO!

WHO KNOWS...

Gareth @ THE DOCTOR WHO PROJECT!
